Indulge in “Seaside” living at The Beaches

This neighbourhood just east of Toronto is a vibrant neighbourhood with much to offer. It was first settled by the Ashbridge family who came from Philadelphia in 1793. Many of the land were set aside for parks such as Woodbine, Kew Gardens, Scarboro, Balmy Beach and Victoria Park, collectively creating a green space for playgrounds and plenty of recreational activities. Queen Street East is a dense commercial district providing the heart of the urban character for the neighbourhood.

Being close to the lake, this neighbourhood feels more like a lakeside resort town than a big city neighbourhood. With all the surrounding amenities, green space, parks, restaurants and shops, this is a desirable area for many to live.

The Properties

The Beach has one of the greatest variety of architectural house styles of any Toronto neighbourhood. The homes exude charm and is accentuated by the tree-lined streets, Picturesque with a lot of character. Many of the Beach cottages built in the 1800’s and 1900’s have been renovated and modernized. The homes around the area are semi-detached homes, with some larger homes that are owned or divided into apartments. You will also find low-rise apartments and row-houses.

This quaint neighbourhood is home to an academic crowd. Many residents have lived in the neighbourhood for years, but recent years it has been attracting many new young families and professionals.

Ashbridge’s Bay Park is a popular destination for families to enjoy all the outdoor amenities and green space. Glen Stewart Park off Queen Street has a picturesque ravine and nature trail. Donald Summerville Pool located just by the lake and includes an Olympic size pool, a diving pool and a children’s pool. Kew Gardens has many tennis courts, a baseball diamond, an artificial ice rink, a playground, a wading pool and a concert bandstand. During the summer months, plenty of festivals are held, the most popular is the Beaches International Jazz Festival

Some of the local favourite restaurants: Limon is a middle eastern restaurant that offers takeout and delivery. Zane Patisserie is a bakery near the beach with a variety of desserts to snack on. Garden Gate Restaurant is an Asian fusion breakfast and brunch place with a variety of options to choose from.

Shopping

From vintage stores to gift shops to delectable baked goods, the retail scene along Queen St. East and Kingston Road is on the rise.
